Top Wedding Trends for 2022

Here Charlotte the stylist at Fine & Dandy tells us her top wedding décor trends for 2022:
Big & Beautiful
With so many postponed weddings from last year, 2022 is the year for going big!
Although weddings will potentially be smaller and more intimate, the budget may remain the same, so there is definitely a ‘go big or go home’ vibe on everything else.
Think oversized florals, showstopper cakes, extravagant backdrops, endless candlelight, decadent dessert tables, maximalist centrepieces, exquisite glassware and tableware, and anything which is crowd pleasing and adds the Wow factor!
Fairytale Lighting
Whether you’re getting married outdoors or indoors, concept lighting is a must-have for making your venue sizzle with romance. Mood lighting such as twinkly drapes, festoon lighting, Edison bulb backdrops, neon signs, Moroccan lantern shades, and vintage chandeliers, is sure to set the tone for a magical evening filled with ambiance.
Dark & Moody
2021 is the year to do it your way, and couples are stepping away from a more traditional colour palette of neutrals & pastels, and are moving over to the dark side. Black, in particular is a colour which was once a big no-no for weddings, and is now being seen not just in wedding décor and tableware, but also within wedding cakes, stationery & florals. Rich jewel tones and bronze metallics are also the perfect colour combination for a dark romantic feel.
Feature Backdrops
After the turmoil of postponements and playing the waiting game, we’re seeing a trend in feature backdrops, and making a statement which guests are certain to remember. Floral adorned archways, geometric backdrops, wooden tipis, moon gate arches, suspended florals, fabric banners and flower walls all work beautifully to create swoon-worthy ceremony spaces. And we all know guests love a photo opportunity, so these backdrops can also double up as the perfect DIY photo area.
Stoneware & Ceramics
With the micro wedding still on trend, and couples opting for a more relaxed and informal atmosphere, we are seeing an increase in banquet style dining and grazing tables, and generally a more casual approach to wedding styling. The use of textured earthenware crockery, rows of vintage ceramic bottles filled with wild florals, and rustic stone candle holders are becoming more and more popular. Ceramics are also being used within personalised wedding favours and on the day stationery too.
70’s Vibes
Whether you’re planning a maxi-wedding or a more intimate affair, the laidback boho feels of the ‘70s are still very much a trend of the season. Think warm colour palettes of oranges & ochre, with natural earthy hues and colour pops of magenta, styled with raw, sustainable and natural materials such as rattan, seagrass, macramé, textured linens & French cane. Throw into the mix a dried floral installation with bold dip dyed pampas grass & oversized palms, a pair of rattan peacock chairs, and a stack of disco balls, we would say you have the perfect set up for your big day!
