Here Charlotte the stylist at Fine & Dandy tells us her top tips for planning the perfect micro wedding;
Micro doesn’t mean basic!
It would seem micro weddings are the way forward. Before the pandemic madness of COVID-19, we were seeing a real trend in smaller, more intimate weddings, and during the craziness of 2020, the micro wedding has never been more relevant. But rest assured this trend is not all about saving money (although it can be an added bonus!) and certainly does not mean that you need to compromise on style.
‘Micro’ does not mean basic, and even though the guest list might need to be scaled back, there is no reason to reduce the level of luxury and opulence.
Prioritise your must haves
Like with all weddings, it is essential to prioritise your key must haves for the day. This can massively vary from one wedding to another, and a good starting point is to choose together, 3 all-important components for your day. For some it could be flowers and décor, for others it could be all about the food, drinks and entertainment. Then make a priority list and focus the budget on these areas. Reducing the number of guests, will naturally mean that costs are also reduced. However this also gives you the opportunity to be more elaborate on certain areas, and focus on the quality of your overall wedding.
TOP TIP – Utilise your décor and flowers wherever you can. A ceremony backdrop, might also be the perfect backdrop for your wedding cake or photobooth later on. Lanterns and wedding aisle décor can also be very versatile, and add warmth to an evening reception.
Keep it personal
Keeping your guest list small means you are surrounded by those nearest and dearest to you, and you can have meaningful interaction with each and every guest. This also allows your guests to feel valued, and to be a huge part of your day. Smaller, intimate weddings are perfect for couples who don’t like to be the centre of attention, and prefer a more relaxed soiree with their loved ones.
TOP TIP - Get your guests involved with the speeches, have an interactive guest book, and why not add some personalised cocktails to the drinks menu? Find ways to inject personal touches here and there, which will create warmth and atmosphere, and memories to treasure!
It’s your day… Do it your way!
It might seem obvious, but this is so often forgotten. Regardless of size, your wedding day is your day, and should be all about you! And the joy of having a micro wedding is that you can step away from traditions. If the formality of a cake cutting and first dance isn’t for you, then why have them at all? With most micro weddings, the venues are exclusive use, and might even be at home, so you are not restricted by tight timelines. We see so often, couples trying to create a wedding which they feel they should have rather than creating the wedding which they actually want, so don’t be afraid to break the wedding mould and think outside of the box.
Seek help from your suppliers
If your first choice of wedding isn’t a micro wedding, but you are needing to adapt your wedding plans due to restrictions, then lean on your chosen wedding suppliers for advice and support. TOP TIP – If your guest list has been slashed, why not have a live-stream video of your ceremony, speeches or first dance? Or print off photos of loved ones who can not be present at your wedding, and get guests to hold photos of them, so they can also be in your wedding photos.
